is an event held by SiIvaGunner in which 32 contestants competed to take over the SiIvaGunner youtube channel. Each contestant was given a sourcelist, that is, a list of all the things their takeover could pull from if they won, and over about a month in November 2019, remixes and arrangements fitting that sourcelist. Contestants were paired up bracket-style and voted out by the viewerbase until a winner was decided.
Of course the whole thing's a competition, but it's a lot more about the journey than the destination for me. The tournament has enjoyed a lot more longevity than the takeover it spawned, largely thanks to the spectacle of it, I think. The reward and the competition are really just a backdrop, an excuse to put out great music, and with a pool of contestants this broad, KFAD really feels like a celebration of music as a whole.
Here's how the bracket turned out.
I think there are very few surprises here. I disagree with a lot of these placements, but public opinion rules all, and most of the outcomes in here are very explainable. For more in-depth thoughts, see the contestants tab below.
The real draw of the tournament, to me, is the characters competing in it. It's a lot of fun picking your favorite guys, rooting for their matches, listening to their arrangements whenever they release. And there's a lot to choose between, too, this pool of contestants draws from so many pockets of music and internet culture, the diversity of the roster means there's almost certainly someone to get behind.
Click on one of the portraits over to the left to bring up my thoughts on them, their design and their run of the tournament.
(Yes, they'll all have original portraits eventually. 32 drawings is a lot, bear with me.)
| The King For Another Day Tournament | The entire tournament as it played out, in chronological order. Easily the best way to experience KFAD shy of having been there for it. This playlist also includes all the trailers and promotional things SiIvaGunner put out before the tournament. |

Because they made so much music for this project (654 tracks between them!), the album release had to be split between 3 different albums, which is pretty funny. These were originally available on Bandcamp before SiIvaGunner's account was deleted, so you'll have to settle for these Google Drive links. Sorry! |
| The Hypothetical KFAD Fan Album | Okay so. I've got ambitions to make what I'm calling KFAD fanfiction. The idea is that I'm redoing the tournament all by myself; making the arrangements, doing the voting, even rigging the starting placements to get the matchups I want. The issue here is that I have no experience making music and this is an insane scope to aim for even if i did, which is why the idea is currently bound to a spreadsheet. But I can dream. |
| King for Another Day Mojo | The Mojo is a companion website to the tournament that hosts a whole bunch of related stuff. Like, contestant details and music previews leading up to the start of the tournament, and lore updates during it. Oh yeah, KFAD has lore! I don't have enough opinions to fill a dedicated lore section here, but it's here if that's up your alley! In current year the Mojo is in a state of disrepair unfortunately, missing images and the like, but it's still around! |
